New Year, New Millionaire! $2,000,000 Winning Ticket Sold in DC
As we welcome the new year, the DC Lottery celebrates the emergence of its latest POWERBALL® multi-millionaire!
Pamela V. just increased her wealth by $2,000,000 due to a thoughtful Christmas gift she received from her husband. They found out together, on Christmas Day, that the POWERBALL ticket he purchased from the Capitol Hill Safeway in early December was a winner.
“We are elated to find out we won, it’s life-changing,” says Pamela. “We have kids in college so this will definitely help with college tuition.”
The couple values having enough money for the future, so they plan to save most of their prize money. However, they also want to enjoy some family time and are thinking about going on a fun trip to the Caribbean.

The lottery retailer who sold this winning ticket is set to receive a $10,000 commission.”
The $2,000,000 prize-winning POWERBALL ticket was purchased at the Capitol Hill Safeway located at 415 14th Street SE, for the drawing held on Saturday, December 2, 2023. The winning numbers for this drawing were white balls 28, 35, 41, 47, 60, and red Powerball 3. The Power Play® multiplier was 2x. This POWERBALL “Match 5 + Power Play 2x” win was achieved by matching five winning numbers with the Power Play option, which doubled the $1,000,000 prize for matching five numbers.
This $2 million ticket is the DC Lottery’s highest POWERBALL win for 2023. In addition, DC Lottery had two $1 million POWERBALL winners in 2021 and the record for the highest POWERBALL payout in DC was for a $144 million jackpot in 2009.
