WASHINGTON, D.C.—The estimated annuity jackpot for this Friday’s Mega Millions game has surpassed the ONE BILLION DOLLAR mark to $1.02 billion. The estimated cash value for the current jackpot is $602.5 million.

The $1.02 billion jackpot is the third highest for Mega Millions and the fourth highest in the history of U.S. jackpot games. The history-making top prize has quickly escalated, jumping three times between Friday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 26.

Locally, D.C. Lottery is experiencing a surge in sales at its retail locations across the city. “Players are excited about this historic jackpot, and this would be a monumental win for the District,” said Executive Director Frank Suarez.

The Mega Millions jackpot was last hit on April 15, for $20 million by a winner in Tennessee. Since then, there have been 29 game draws without a jackpot winner. In 2018, a pool of office workers in D.C. claimed $1 million Mega Millions prize.

Proceeds from the sale of D.C. Lottery games are transferred to the District of Columbia’s General Fund in support of essential city services. Since its inception in 1982, the DC Lottery has transferred more than $2.22 billion to the General Fund.
