WASHINGTON, DC—The DC Lottery will join lotteries across North America in observing the sixth annual Lottery Week, beginning July 15. Lottery Week is an opportunity to showcase the many ways DC Lottery contributes to the cultural fabric of the District of Columbia.

“This year, as a bonus for players, for one day only—on National Lottery Day, Wednesday, July 17—we’re rewarding our players with a chance to win a $7 FREE play voucher when spending just $.50 on select DC Lottery games,” announced Frank Suarez, Executive Director of the DC Lottery.

Since its inception in 1982, the DC Lottery has awarded more than $4.6 billion in prizes, transferred more than $2.3 billion to the District's General Fund, which supports essential services in the District, generated more than $489 million in commissions for our retail business partners, and has helped local nonprofits raise more than $137.3 million in support of social causes.

Lotteries play a vital role in enriching the lives of millions, from funding crucial public programs to fostering economic growth and supporting local initiatives. Lottery Week recognizes the collective contributions of lotteries throughout the United States and Canada to the communities they serve.

In fiscal year 2023, U.S. lotteries generated over $113.3 billion in sales, resulting in more than $30.3 billion for their beneficiaries.

But there’s more. In addition to its financial impact, the DC Lottery actively engages with local communities through various initiatives and partnerships. From licensing charitable gaming events to collaborating with responsible gambling organizations to promote safe play, the DC Lottery demonstrates its commitment to social responsibility and community welfare throughout the year.

Lottery Week aims to highlight the positive impacts that lotteries make and recognize the important role lotteries play in their jurisdictions.

Director Suarez asserted, “With over 40 years in the game, the DC Lottery understands that every play counts. There’s much to celebrate in D.C. during Lottery Week and beyond. We invite players to join us on the journey to 40 more.”
