WASHINGTON, D.C.— Augusta Grimes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, came to Washington, DC to see the sights of the nation’s capital. What she didn’t bank on was leaving $100,000 wealthier thanks to her win playing DC Lottery’s Wild Cash Multiplier scratcher.

“We’re in town to do the tourist thing,” said Mrs. Grimes, accompanied by her husband, while claiming her prize at DC Lottery headquarters. “Who knew I’d go home a lottery winner!”

Augusta occasionally plays at home and thought getting a ticket while in DC would be fun. “I had no idea it would be this fun,” said Grimes. It was certainly worth the trip.

Mrs. Grimes purchased the winning scratcher on May 20th at DC Lottery’s pop-up stand during the Everything, Everyone, All the Food at Once Fest at The Wharf

DC Lottery has an ongoing presence at local events spotlighting the District’s culture. Upcoming events include The Wharf Rock the Dock Concert Series and the Home Rule Music Festival. Click here to learn more.
