$50,000 Powerball Prize and More Awesome August Wins

WASHINGTON, DC—In the final month of summer, temps may be cooling, but the winning is still HOT. DC Lottery players celebrated more than $9,092,153 in shared prizes in August. Here are just some of their stories and the games that took them to the winners’ circle.

In-Store Wins

In-store players from across the District scored more than $7 million in prizes.

  • Renee, matched four numbers and the Powerball to snag a $50,000 prize during August’s historic jackpot run.  Thomas and Sons Market on Benning Road sold this winning ticket.
  • Ross, a native Washingtonian and proud Woodson Warrior alumnus, scored his $25,000 DC 5 win by playing a familiar phone number. This winning ticket was purchased at neighborhood favorite Avondale Coffee Shop on Michigan Avenue in Northeast.
  • Gary, a native Washingtonian preparing for retirement, won $25,000 with DC 5 by playing a winning combination of numbers inspired by a license plate. His ticket was purchased at Avondale Coffee Shop.
  • Zina also won $50,000 with the DC 5 game. She looks forward to banking this windfall and enjoying it with her husband, her partner in life and lottery. Sky-Market on Bladensburg Road sold this winning ticket.

Online Wins

During August, online and app wins accounted for more than $2.3 million in prizes. Kenya M. virtually scratched her way to a $5,000 prize with the Loaded With 20X e-Instant game. Another lucky player, who has yet to claim their prize, is set to cross the finish line with more than $13,000 with Race2Riches, an exciting computer-animated Lottery game that offers the thrill of live horse racing.

2nd Chance Wins

DC Lottery’s 2nd Chance contests give players more opportunities to win by entering eligible tickets for additional chances at cash, prizes, and exclusive experiences. In August, Extreme 500X Fortune’s 2nd Chance held its second of nine drawings awarding five players $10,000 each. And the DC Numbers 2nd Chance contest awarded 209 players cash prizes ranging from $50 to $25,000.
