WASHINGTON, DC—The DC Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) has been reaccredited by the World Lottery Association (WLA) for its Responsible Gaming Program and has achieved Level 2 certification through 2029.
The WLA is an international, member-based organization that includes state-authorized lotteries and state-licensed sports wagering operators. OLG was accepted for WLA membership in June 2025 and the progression to Level 2 certification recognizes OLG’s commitment to promoting responsible gaming practices and maintaining an effective, responsible gaming program that upholds the highest standards of integrity and public trust.
“We view responsible gaming as a deeply integral part of our business operations and oversight responsibilities, said OLG Executive Director Randy Burnside. “We are honored to receive the Level 2 certification award and will continue to place our focus on raising awareness about problem gambling, available treatment resources, and the importance of responsible play.” Burnside continued.
Implemented as part of the Sports Wagering Lottery Amendment Act of 2018, OLG’s Responsible Gaming Program establishes an overall orientation to responsible gaming practice and policy. Today, the Program provides a comprehensive framework to minimize the potentially harmful impact of gambling on individuals, families, and the community. Lottery retail partners and sports wagering operators in the District are equally committed to responsible gaming practices and are mandated to develop and maintain a responsible gaming program.
WLA members comprise more than 160 lotteries and sports wagering operators worldwide, across 89 countries, united in the common goal of raising funds for public good through the responsible sale of lottery and gaming products. This alliance bolsters the OLG’s ongoing commitment to providing best-in-class services, integrating the agency into a network with access to recognized global frameworks focused on operational integrity, responsible gaming, security standards, and anti-illegal gaming measures.
