25 Years of being Washington, D.C.'s Best Bet!

Welcome to the D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board’s new website. As you take a tour around the site, you’ll see we’ve reworked, revamped, and revised the site to better suit you, our valued customer. Have a look around. We hope you like the changes.

As you browse through the site, visit the “Where the Money Goes” page to witness how Lots of People Win with the D.C. Lottery, primarily District residents! In Fiscal Year 2008, the agency transferred $70.3 million to the District of Columbia’s General Fund. Revenue generated by the D.C. Lottery is vital to making our city a better place for the nearly 600,000 District residents in addition to the millions of commuters and tourists who visit the Nation’s Capital daily and play the D.C. Lottery. Allocated by the Mayor with the consent of the Council of the District of Columbia, General Fund monies are used to support essential city services such as public safety, education, health services, public works, and economic development.

Also, the D.C. Lottery regulates charitable gaming by licensing non-profit organizations to hold charitable gaming bingo, raffles, Monte Carlo Night Parties, and Texas Hold ‘Em. With the support of D.C. Lottery staff, local non-profit organizations, through grassroots activities and programs, raised $4.7 million with charitable gaming, assisting important causes that benefit our society.

Congratulations to all of our D.C. Lottery winners. Collectively, D.C. Lottery players won $135.1 million in cash and prizes in FY08. Native Washingtonian Lionel Holmes was ‘hotter than July’ with his $1 million POWERBALL® Power Play win in the summer of 2008.

Small businesses also win with the D.C. Lottery, as agents earned $15.8 million in commissions from selling $135 million worth of lottery tickets, including Nesro Hassen who sold Holmes his winning ticket, earning himself a $10,000 commission check.

As we look to Fiscal Year 2009, the D.C. Lottery will continue to provide its players with great games and customer service, be a responsible and committed community partner, and contribute to the quality of life of District of Columbia residents.

A special ‘thank you’ to our players, agents, advisory board, and staff. Your dedication has provided us the opportunity to demonstrate that Lots of People Win with the D.C. Lottery!
